SMD production line off to Brazil

FRITSCH, the manufacturer of highly-flexible production equipment for the manufacturing of small series, is placing another pick & place system in Brazil. The production line has already been delivered and will be put into operation on site in April 2012.

"The line of approx. 10m in length will fully automatically manufacture PCBs there for the customer's own needs", according to Sergio R. Amico from SMTech. "The decision to purchase from FRITSCH was made after the customer carefully weighed all requirements. In the end, both the product and our service was able to persuade the customer."

In the first step, the paste is printed onto the PCBs. This is where the semi-automatic Fritsch SD 903 Screen and Stencil Printer comes into action. The adjustable, motorized scraper movement, the tried and tested quick change frame, the double scraper, the flexible PCB fixtures and the parallel table lowering system are able to guarantee even printing and above all, easy and time-saving handling

There is an unloader and a loader at the beginning and end of the line respectively for the automatic feeding of the PCBs. Using a magazine, up to 50 PCBs can be processed. This caters for continuous and cost-effective production. The operator fills the magazine directly after scraping the PCBs.

The assembly of the PCBs takes place in this production line with a placeALL 610L.

This machine offers inline space for up to 200 8mm belts. The intelligent smartFEEDER is set-up at a separate offline place via the PA bar code software option. During an ongoing project, the operator can prepare for following projects and store the feeder safely in the feeder trolley. Change-over times are thus reduced to a minimum.

In this machine configuration, a dual assembly head takes over the placing of the components. With this, FRITSCH increases the assembly output of the placeALL610L up to 10500Bt/h. The component spectrum ranges from chips 01005 to fine pitch 80x80mm and grids of 0.3mm, BGAs, QFNs and special components such as plugs and LEDs.

These components are fed on the FRITSCH complete feeder series. This includes the smartFEEDER with 8-72mm tape width, the feeder block for 10x8mm belts, the vibration feeder for max. 10x SO08 components as well as tray holders, belt feeders and bulk goods adaptors.

Despite the inline alternative, it is possible to process PCBs with a width of 30-310mm and a length of up to 340mm.

3 assembly line segments were integrated in the production line for various tasks. A first quality control takes place immediately after assembling the PCBs. The operator can likewise remove the PCBs at this point and place them back in the system should additional components have to be placed manually prior to the reflow process. Furthermore, the conveyor road serves the purpose of decking the PCBs and thus equalizing the speed of the equipment.

The PCB is subsequently soldered with an RS903 reflow soldering furnace. With the hot air convection furnace with 5 zones, a grid belt and pin chain for double-sided assembled PCBs, FRITSCH guarantees an environmentally-friendly, lead-free soldering of PCBs with a high diversity of components.
